Who we are...

We are a fun, friendly group of men and women who love to sing! CUBE Choir has around 50-60 regular members from all walks of life with a shared love of singing and performing. We rehearse at Calderdale Music Trust's premises at the Old Courthouse, on Blackwall, Halifax. Our membership requirement is 50 years of age and upwards and there are no auditions.

We welcome singers with all levels of experience.

Our rehearsals run from 6:45 to 8:45pm on Tuesday evenings during term time.

An accomplished, inclusive and talented choir, CUBE Choir wowed the audience with their first public performance at Halifax Minster in December 2012. The choir, formed originally with lottery funding, has continued to go from strength to strength and since 2014 has operated independently. We normally perform two full concerts a year as a minimum and occasionally smaller events by invitation.

Daniel is a charismatic and passionate Colombian choral conductor and educator.

He holds a BA in Music and Choral Conducting from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, where he graduated with the Order of Academic Merit.

He was subsequently awarded a College of Arts Master’s Scholarship to study for an MA in Choral Conducting at the University of Birmingham, where he worked with Simon Halsey CBE and Julian Wilkins.

Daniel was a Conducting Scholar on the Crouch End Festival Chorus Mentoring Scheme under the tutelage of David Temple CBE, and has further developed his practice with internationally acclaimed conductors including Anthony Trecek-King, Bob Chilcott, Daniel Hyde, Patrick Russill, Nicholas Chalmers, and Simon Carrington.

Before moving to the UK, Daniel held several prominent roles in Colombia, including Assistant Conductor of the Children’s Cantoría of Colombia, Musical Director of the San Bartolomé Chorus, Choral Director at the Batuta National Foundation, and Director of Music at Immaculate Concepción Church in Chicó, Bogotá.

For three years, Daniel served as Choral Director for Bradford in the Diocese of Leeds Schools Singing Programme, where he conducted both the Bradford Girls’ Choir and the Bradford Junior Choir. He is now Assistant Director of the programme, working as Choral Director at Leeds Cathedral Choir School, Holy Rosary, and St Anne’s, leading an innovative and inclusive approach to choral music education within state schools. He also contributes to curriculum development and notation resources for the Cathedral Choir School, supporting a programme delivered across more than 75 schools in Yorkshire as part of the wider National Schools Singing Programme.

In addition, Daniel manages the Keyboard Studies Programme, which includes whole-class melodica teaching as well as individual tuition in piano, organ, and accordion.

Alongside his educational work, he is Musical Director of Knaresborough Choral Society and The Cube Choir Halifax, a Fellow of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, and regularly appears as a guest conductor across Yorkshire.
